| NAMIBIAN SELF-DRIVE
OPTIONS |
|
|
An ever increasing number of travelers
are shying away from organised and guided holidays and prefer to explore
a destination at their own pace depending on their interests. On the
African continent, this type of holiday is generally not possible,
bar for the seasoned adventure traveler. Namibia is one of the few
exceptions on the continent and offers itself as an ideal, user friendly
self drive destination of unexpected variety.
Namibia has a good network of roads with some tarred and the remainder
being well maintained with gravel surfaces. Road signs are frequent
and easy to follow, gasoline is available at all towns. Cellular phones
cover the main towns and surrounding areas but do not have country-wide
coverage. Generally distances travelled are substantial, especially
by European standards, however, traffic density is low. Please note
that Namibia and neighboring countries have left-hand side traffic.
Approximate travel times have been indicated on these suggested itineraries,
these are from point A to point B and do not include stop-off touring
time.
Often the concern is raised in respect of safety in Namibia, the traveller
can be assured that any areas of tourism value are safe. A general
attitude of care and the acceptance that one is in a third-world country,
will allow for a trouble free holiday.
Any itinerary contained within Sense of Africa brochure can be undertaken
as a self-drive program and shortened or lengthened, to suite the
visitors interests and requirement. |
